Words from the bride

How did you meet and how long have you been together?
Trent and I met in Psychology 101 the spring semester of our freshman year at Mississippi College. We officially met each other at a Super Bowl party hosted by a mutual friend. A few weeks into the semester (Trent likes to remind everyone that it was the year Eli Manning and the Giants ruined the Patriots’ shot at a perfect season!) So, eventually I convinced him to be more than just a friend and the rest is history! Now, we have been together for 10 years now and feel so fortunate to have experienced so much life together.

What were your highlights of the day? Were there any surprises?
The highlight of the day was the perfect weather! I spent weeks studying the weather forecast trying to figure out what our day would be like. Of course, ultimately I had no control over it! It was very important to us to be able to utilize the terrace and all the outdoor space. Mainly for the ceremony, but also for the reception (and to make the second line more enjoyable too!). It was the most perfect day with great sunshine, blue skies, and wonderful comfortable temperatures. Weather in New Orleans is always unpredictable! Trent proposed while we were in New Orleans last December and it was 88 degree. So, we knew this could really impact the comfort of our guests. The weather also made for some great shots during our first look on the roof top deck of the Omni.

What advice would you give to other couples planning their day?
The number one piece of advice I could give is to hire a wedding planner and prioritize the things you want to spend money on. I had pretty extensive event planning experience, but have known for years that I would be completely over my head in planning a wedding. Hiring Emily Sullivan of Emily Sullivan Events was the best thing we did–we really felt like we were able to enjoy our wedding day and the days leading up to it. Prioritizing different aspects of the wedding is also helpful! For example, we focused on the was the venue, the photography, the music, and hiring Emily. We were able to spend less money or go with less well-known vendors for other things like flowers, cake, etc. in order to get the most out of everything! It’s so easy to get lost in Pinterest images or wedding blogs and think that spending tons of money on everything is necessary, but staying focused on our priorities was key to making the most of our budget and our experience.

Ceremony Location | What made you decide to get married there?
We were married and had our reception on the terrace at the Omni Royal Orleans. New Orleans is a special place to us — I was born there, my parents spent their newlywed years there, and Trent and I have been there many times to celebrate and explore! We have known for a long time that we wanted a New Orleans wedding, and I had kept a list for years of potential venues. Immediately after getting engaged I started emailing and calling venues, and was so surprised by how many were already booked or by how high the minimum food & beverage costs were! The Omni Royal fit perfectly within our budget, was so beautiful, and offered the most convenience– location in the French Quarter, impressive food and beverage options, lots of perks, the roof top deck, a great “rain plan”, etc. Once we went on a tour, we knew it was the place for us! Now that the wedding has come and gone, it’s so nice to know that in the future the Omni is a place we can return to for a weekend getaway to re-live our happy memories!
